Investment Management

We follow a principal protected investment strategy, striving to protect our clients’ principal and stabilize their portfolios in turbulent times, yet create disciplined opportunities for growth. What that means for individual investors is milder portfolio fluctuations during unsettled times and growth as the markets rise.

Every client’s portfolio is appropriately diversified, based on their financial plan, time horizon and tolerance for risk. We utilize our unique Investment Policy Process to understand each client’s risk tolerance. Then, we develop a personalized strategic asset allocation model to help them meet their short and long-term objectives. Finally, we select portfolio investments that match their risk tolerance and long-term goals from assets that we monitor closely and believe will provide high value and low volatility over time.

Rather than follow a “buy and hold” strategy, our Investment Committee meets weekly to direct tactical asset allocation, based on the most current investment research. Through customized asset allocation models, we tactically over-weight or under-weight asset classes based on asset valuation and market conditions. Our clients’ portfolios are adjusted over time as asset classes are strategically over or under-weighted.

Our Investment Process

Financial Planning

Most Colorado Financial Management client relationships include a detailed financial plan, which drives our investment strategy. Our dedicated team of financial planners does not take a “cookie cutter” approach to our clients’ futures. Instead, we provide comprehensive financial counsel while developing a personalized financial plan that reflects each family’s needs, objectives and aspirations.

We start with a detailed questionnaire that asks about assets, liabilities and income. We take into consideration any major life events, such as the education of a child or elder care responsibilities. We review the client’s retirement objectives, tax situation, insurance needs and whether their estate plan and other critical documents are up-to-date.

If during the financial planning process we find that a client is in need of additional professional assistance, we can provide expert referrals from our trusted network. As a last step, we integrate their personal financial plan into their investment plan to help them achieve their personal aspirations and secure their financial future.

Our financial planning team includes a former KPMG tax partner, along with nine planning professionals with extensive experience in investments, insurance, estate planning, business, and banking.
